Shakin' Stevens: "This Old House"

This rock 'n' roll revivalist artist had a hit in 1981 in England, though it didn't chart in North America. Even so, this is a great, old song done in authentic rockabilly style. Check it out here.

Various passages in the Bible refer to our bodies as dwellings. We read one example of this analogy in 2 Peter 1:13 and 14 (Bible in Basic English). "And it seems right to me, as long as I am in this tent of flesh, to keep your minds awake by working on your memory; For I am conscious that in a short time I will have to put off this tent of flesh, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me."

Likewise, Hebrews 9:11 and 12 (BBE) shows that Jesus' body was a tabernacle. "But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things of the future, through this greater and better Tent, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this world, And has gone once and for ever into the holy place, having got eternal salvation, not through the blood of goats and young oxen, but through his blood."

Paul also likened our bodies as both dwelling places and clothing in 2 Corinthians 5:1-4 (BBE). "For we are conscious that if this our tent of flesh is taken down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in heaven. For in this we are crying in weariness, greatly desiring to be clothed with our house from heaven: So that our spirits may not be unclothed. For truly, we who are in this tent do give out cries of weariness, for the weight of care which is on us; not because we are desiring to be free from the body, but so that we may have our new body, and death may be overcome by life."

And as hard as this might be to imagine, we're God's home. As 2 Corinthians 6:16 (BBE) explains, we must be fit for him by being pure. "And what agreement has the house of God with images? for we are a house of the living God; even as God has said, 'I will be living among them, and walking with them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.'"

So if Christ hasn't come to give us our new bodies by Saturday, I'll tell you about a mall built on a graveyard.
